The badblocks command can be run on individual partitions, including the
swap partition, when booted off of floppy.  It does not remap blocks, but
just reports them.  It can be run in read only mode, read-write mode
(non-destructive), and destructive mode.  I believe you can run it on the
whole hard drive too.

actualy problem is i do not know if i have any bad block my home
partion if check every 20 boots and i never got any error about bad
partions also /dev/hda1 2 4 are check with e2fsck -cf that did not
report any bad blocks too but /dev/hda3 which is swap i could not
check and redhat setup programme said i got some bad block on
/dev/hda2 which e2fsck did not report after wards. how can i check
the whole hard drive? cause if i have bad block i will contact dell
and request a new hard drive. thx
