You'll need to spend some time browsing gnu web site, www.gnu.org. Ultimately the answer, IMHO, is a mixture of religious and political zealotry. No matter what your view point is, the facts will be that as long as gnu lives and contributes software code to the linux base, info documents will be here living with us.
