There is a way to setup the auto detect in windows. The squid server has to
have a DNS name like wap or WEP I can't remember and then you'll need a
proxy.pac file to auto config. I'll try to find the docs I have and then
post again.

Subject: Squid question

I'd like to setup squid as a proxy server for my small network (1-10
systems), but I have some questions. I have been able to get squid working
perfectly (RedHat9), I point my web browser (IE6 on WinXP workstations)to
192.168.1.xxx:3128 and it works great! Thank-you Squid dev team :-)

Here is what I wish I could do. I'd like to NOT have to manualy configure
every clients web broswer to the IP/PORT of the proxy. Is there any easy or
hard way to get DHCP or something else to "auto" setup or make the gateway
point to the squid proxy, so it's transparent to end-users/clients that they
are using squid.

I am unable to set gateway IP on Linksys router. I can configure DHCP POOL
and DNS only.

Linksys router = Linksys BEFW11S4 V4

Network Layout:
Comcast Cable modem (RJ45) to Linksys router (IP=192.168.1.1) Linksys router
to 10port 10/100 Mb switch. DHCP is controled by Linksys router.
192.16.8.10-192.168.1.90 (DHCP POOL) RedHat 9 server IP 192.168.1.200
(STATIC)

Typical workstationlooks DHCP:
IP: 192.168.1.10-90 (Dynamic)
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS1: 1xx.1xx.1xx.1xx (confgiured from cable modem)
DNS2: 2xx.2xx.2xx.2xx (confgiured from cable modem)
DNS3: 2xx.2xx.2xx.2xx (Manually inserted on Linksys DHCP config page)

Sorry for the long message, but I wanted to provide all needed information.

Thank-you!
