Hi Mark,

If you look at the package exception tab on the up2date window
you should see an entry for "kernel*" which is preventing your kernel
from being updated.

Updating your kernel is a riskier proposition than updating your
applications so doing it by hand may be prudent.

By the way, are you sure your kernel is version 2.3 ?   This seems
a bit odd.  If it is indeed version 2.3 then i would suggest
updating your kernel.  Version 2.3 was a development kernel not 
really meant for production use.
