I have an old-ish Vaio z505le, and it largely works, out-of-the-box, with Red Hat. I use these every day: - CPU - 192 MB RAM - keyboard - trackpad - display - "power" switch to put it to sleep - ethernet - sound - PCMCIA for Wifi card - IR to sync to Palm (I put some magic stuff in /etc/module.conf--Google is your friend) - serial port on port expander - VGA out on port expander (after a reboot to notice it) - USB floppy (once I knew to mount /dev/sdb) The jog dial, fn keys, and backlight brightness control are supported by the *kernel*, but they don't do anything without some decision as to *what* to do, in my case I have a little app that I use to control sound volume and screen brightness using the jogdial and fn keys. I have not tried to use the dial-up modem (everytime I go another month or two without hearing a dialup modem screech I am so much happier), but I am told it works for regular data but not fax--I expect some futzing is necessary. I have also not tried Firewire or that Sony-specific memory slot. I don't have the Sony CD-ROM, I use a floppy+NFS server to load Linux. -kb -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
