 Oops. Yes, slipped my mind for a sec ;-). Probably not a second 
machine there so you could have setup mutual serial consoles.

 So there's no need for pauses. The information should end up in dmesg.

 That's double sad :-( . Had you made the same mistake on the 
production box your problem would now have likely been solved. And 
because the problem is not reproducible it's harder to debug even if 
you file a bug report.
