One difference is that Postgresql is open for benchmarking but Oracle prohibits benchmarking as part of their end-user license. For example, doing a little Googling I find references to an article "Apache Today - PR: Postgres Routs Competition in New Benchmark Tests", but the page can't be found. Another page by an individual had side-by-side benchmarks, but all the Oracle results were substituted with a sentence saying they are prohibited. Me thinks that the commercial databases are *not* faster or they would not threaten to whack you over the head with a lawyer for finding out. One difference that might be in Oracle's favor is that Postgrasql is a relational database. Period. You might be able to find other software that works with it, but you will have to look. I think Oracle, on the other hand, has a deeper product line with a single phone number to call to find out what else you might want to spend money on. Oracle probably offers better support than a free product can offer, but Oracle probably charges for that support, whereas I am sure there are Postgresql jocks who can be hired too. Do some Google searching to learn more. -kb, the Kent who asked Google: postgresql oracle benchmark, in order to write this. -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
