Hi Steve,

I think I mis-read what [EMAIL PROTECTED] asked about host name and
domain name and may have confused you too. Sorry.

Palmetto is the host name which is running dynamic dns through
dyndns.org. The dnsalias.net is one of their domain names. I can send
and receive mail fine using mail.palmetto.dnsalias.net.

The palmettoshopper.com domain is mine but I'm using dyndns.org to
update the dynamic address I get from my ISP about every 15 days or so.
I can also send and receive mail from this address.

Both domains are located on the same server. From a pc inside the
network, I can access either website but on the server itself, I can
only reach http://palmetto.dnsalias.net via http://localhost. The
palmettoshopper.com just times out. Of course, from the internet, there
is no problem reaching either. The hostname is set as
palmetto.dnsalias.net in /etc/HOSTNAME.

It would seem, that using nameservers from either my ISP's or dyndns',
that it should resolve back to itself, if not internally, externaly.

www.palmetto.dnsalias.net

I think your confusing a host name (Fully qualified domain name) with a
domain name (a zone).
