I had a similar problem with RH9 on a Dell Latitude C640 with a DVD drive.
I've been meaning to bugzilla it, but I got the install done using NFS
instead, so filing seems a bit less urgent now...

It may be that the laptop doesn't know how to boot from CD-ROM without
floppy emulation in the boot record.  A Knoppix CD boots fine, and that's
one difference between Shrike disk 1 and Knoppix.  Sometime, I need to
experiment some more, unless someone beats me to it.
