that's the scary part. under X windows it's fine, it's screwed up at
the regular prompt! i verified the horizontal and vertical sync parameters
from the manufacturer's website, no apparent problem there. SuperProbe
tells me i'm using the right driver in the right way.
today i'm going to look into swapping the video card and maybe the switcher.
