TANSTAAEQ....Without more information about your system--RH version, internet connection type, firewall, etc. I can only make a guess. Check your /var/log/messages file when this occurs. Your firewall could be blocking your access to the net. Or, you could not be connected even though you think you are. Or, you could have the dns server set incorrectly. Or......
