I have RH9.0 installed on a mail server. It is currently having issues with the hard drive keeping up with the demand of file I/O. The following is the hardware in the server:
1) Dual Intel Xeon 2.40GHz CPUs. 2) Intel PIIX4 Ultra 100 onboard IDE controller. 3) Western Digital (WD2000JB-00DUA0) 200 gig IDE HD. Right now I get the following results from 'hdparm -tT /dev/hda': /dev/hda: Timing buffer-cache reads: 128 MB in 0.31 seconds =412.90 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 64 MB in 6.66 seconds = 9.61 MB/sec With running a mail server on this server, there are frequent times the server will seem like it is taking a break with all of the disk I/O. Is there anything I can do to speed things up? The hard drive is capable of handling the load. I just do not think something is not setup correctly. Can someone please give me some insite? If there is other information you need, please let me know. Thanks in advance, Goofy __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
