Not really - at least not in the US. Over 506000 (yep, half a million), IT
jobs "disappeared" from the US over the last two years. A great many of them
turned up in India and China where the cost of an equivalent engineer has been
pegged at 1/5 and 1/10 the cost of a US engineer respectively. Companies like
Cisco, Nortel, and 3Com - just to name three telecomm players, all lay-ed off
US engineers at the same time they were hiring and training new engineers to
do exactly the same jobs in these other countries.

All of the large technology companies are doing the same thing. Why? Reduced
software development costs.

Yes, the US economy will recover (eventually) but we do need to be aware
that the landscape for technology jobs here in the US has changed forever
and will be much smaller and lower paid than it has in the past.

If you want examples, you can look at this web site: (I didn't name it,
sorry): its called www.fsckthatjob.com. Replace fsck with what you
think it probably is.

Sorry for the less than optimistic report but I've seen the numbers and
I've seen the high level management plans and they don't include doing
software here in the US. Yes It will still exist, but with a much larger
pool of job seekers competing for a much smaller number of jobs.
