Yes, resolv.conf is only for RH to determine what it uses to resolve a domain name, not the clients behind the firewall. I am assuming that you are talking about the clients behind the firewall not being able to surf. If you are talking about RH being able to surf then the IP address you are getting from your ISP should be working. Let us know if that is what is happening. Otherwise if you are using static address on your clients you need to manually enter the dns IP addresses in you client machines. If you are using dhcpd on the gateway box the other post shows the line you need to modify in the conf file.

I have two NICs and eth0 which is the cable internet connection is resolved through DHCP from the ISP. I am having a recurring problem with the inability to resolve host names. I enter a DNS address into the resolv.conf file on the gateway as root and everything works fine for a while. However, within a few minutes the browser will give an error stating that the host name could not be resolved and upon checking the resolv.conf file, the DNS that I entered will no longer be listed. If I reenter the DNS address everything works fine again...until the next error. My ISP does not provide support for any OS other than Windows and they absolutely refuse to provide their DNS address. They simply state that everything is done through DHCP so that I do not need the DNS address. Consequently, I enable DHCP through eth0 but in my resolv.conf file, I am using a DNS from another ISP. Is this the source of my problem or can anyone tell me what is going on? __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
