ok, my description is not very clear, since i don't know exactly what is
happening.

in the /var/spool/up2date/ are kept the downloaded packages by the
wizard. 

in the case of updating kde by myself, not using the wizard, the
kde-packages are not in /var/spool/up2date/ , but in another dir. 

by 'obsolete-list', i mention the one which is in /var/spool/up2date/
'redhat-linux-i386-8.0-obsoletes.20030224200854' but also the one
mentioned in the wizard's window, which shows older versions because of
my personal 'hand-made' updates. 

so, this reminds in some way Roderick's upgrade from RHL7.2 to 8.0, and
associated conflicts.  

if the wizard checks the /var/spool/up2date/ for updates, 
would it be clever to put the kde installed packages in it, or not ?
