Hi Edward, irwin, Peter, Todd, et al
As Tom Pollerman's post below shows, no one is trying to get you off
the list. Just as Tom suggested below, your reply to someone elses
unsubscribe post is what triggered the email. If you want to reply
to someone's unsubscribe post you should do it off list. Yeah, you'll miss
out on the chance to publicly humiliate them, but its a small price to pay.
:-)

The post Tom pasted in below shows that this infobot, which replies
to anyone attmpting to unsubscribe by sending an "unsubscribe email"
to the list, was announced some time ago. Anyone sending an email to
the list with the word "unsubscribe" in the subject line gets a response
from the infobot. This is clearly stated right at the beginning of the
infobot email and should be obvious.

Anyone responding to someone's "unsubscribe" email would never do so
by replying to the list since this would be just as bad as the initial
attempt to unsubscribe, and just as wasteful for the list. Remember some
people are on metered internet access and are actually billed for every
single byte they get. Lets not push their costs any higher, Ok?

By the way - the headers are not forged and the return path shows clearly
where the email came from. The reply to info was deliberately broken
because I don't want all the folks who can't figure out how to subscribe or
who are angry about all the abuse they received from other folks to
come moaning to me. I get enough email already thanks.

This tool has been in place in the RedHat install List for almost a year
with no problems. In fact some of the folks over there don't even know it
exists. It is much more needed there. The newbie turnover rate is very
high in that list and between the unsubscribe posts and all the responses
too them they were having a real problem. The infobot has helped.

It keeps irrelevant traffic off the list and gives the people who are trying
to unsubscribe explicit directions on how to do it so they don't have to
bother everyone on the list about it. You'll note that the content of the
infobot email is extremely polite and designed not to offend anyone who
bothers to read it.

By the way Todd - You mention that there are pointers to the RedHat
management pages in the infobot email - Are you talking about the
URL's to the RedHat email subscriber pages? Here ?
https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list

That information is part of the instructions which unsubscribers need
to get off the list.
