Been a whiel sinbce I had these errors
It is I think a problem at the second stage of the boot loader, meaning Lilo
was able to find the second stage boot loader but failed to execute it most
likely because of a geometry mismatch of the hard disk.
What you need to do is to edit your lilo.conf with an append =
"hd?=cyl,hds,sec"
where hd? is the name of the drive cyl is tyhe actual number of cylenders on
that drive
hds is the actual number of heads and sec is the actula number of sectors.
Then you can tell the BIOS that the drive is whatever you want, ie. keep
sectors the same, but divide cyl by some integer to keep the resulting number
below 1024 and multiply the heads by the same number. Seems the BIOS likes
lies :-)
Then LILO and Linux knows the truth !
Sorry if this is not clear and hope it helps
Someone please jump on this if it is all wrong
Phil
Oh and of course you need to boot from a rescue floppy to get into your
system to add this line to /etc/lilo.conf :-)
