su and ifconfig, shutdown

I am a Linux semi newbee and have installed Redhat 8 along with apache and SSL. The thing is, when I SSL into the server (via tera term ssl) and su, commands like shutdown and ifconfig are not avaliable. I can however log into the box on the terminal and run these commands logged in as root only. I realize that linuxconf is not even there but is there something I can do about these command privs???
