All of the answers given so far really depend on the type of cluster that you are looking for. If you are going to have the cluster working on number intensive, multithreaded calculations, use an application called pvm or another called mpi (web sites to follow). They are both open source and are relatively easy to install. I've just set up a 4 node cluster for Monte Carlo calculations using the downloaded version of RH8 and pvm3.4.4, the cluster is humming nicely and giving me a speed increase of approximately 3-4x.
It might help the list if you told us what it was for (but then again, do you really want a hundred different answers to the same question?) Okay, that's my answer to the question, now for the websites: pvm: http://www.epm.ornl.gov/pvm/pvm_home.html mpi: http://www.mpi-forum.org/ Clustering: http://extremelinux.esd.ornl.gov/ Beowulf: http://www.beowulf.org/ Hope these help. I've done some google searches, but not getting as far as I'd like. So I was hoping to ask a couple general questions. Can you use clustering with Redhat 8 or do you need to use Redhat Advanced Server? Is it built into 8 or are there RPMs to install? I found a howto at www.tldp.org on clustering. Wondering if there are either any better ones, or just a better set of instructions. If anyone can point me to some useful information that would be great.
