Heh... Yeah, the sys-req keys don't do anything either.  The system is
hard locked. :-)

I've seen similar problems on my Duron system. It's irregular, though,
so 
it's hard to pin down. 

Do you have access to your Magic SysRq keys? You might want to dump core

after a lockup, and submit a bug. If it won't even do that, you probably

have an intermittent hardware problem.
