something you can do:

- ping the ethernet card 192.168.0.5 (from RH comp.)
- ifconfig eth0
  check the speed/duplex is the same as your hub

looks to me like the problem is in the connection between computers, is
there a hub or switch?  if it is a cable, is it a crossover cable?

I cannot get them to see each other, let alone share the internet connection

they won't ping each other

I am very new to Linux, so please be specific with suggestions.
