right, UDMA mode _won't_ work (yet), but the standard DMA modes like
what the older chipsets supported should work. the 430TX chipset has
similar UDMA controllers and 2.0.33 supports its standard DMA (not
UDMA) busmastering capabilities. we have several of these kinds of
boards running linux with their drives in DMA mode and they're quite
happy.  the 430TX is basically triton-][ compatible with UDMA support
added on and as far as linux is concerned works just like a
triton-][. i suspect the 440LX is similar.

standard DMA is a far sight better than no DMA at all. UDMA is even
better yet and 2.2 should support it fully when it comes out.
hopefully that'll be by the time i get my own pentium ][........
