The permissions of /root are wrong. They need to be 755.

Here's the scoop: Cron starts out in /root, then su's to another userid.
Now, as that userid it is in a directory for which it has no permissions,
hence the errors. You should be able to see the problem first hand if...

1. Login as root
2. cd /root
3. su to another userid

This all comes from memory, so I may be off on a small detail. If you just
installed the Linuxconf, I noticed it likes to change the permissions for
the /root directory. You can use Linuxconf to change that.

Also, this problem shows up every 6 months or so on this list, so you
probably could have found it in the archives. Picking a good keyword on
which to search is a art, however.
