A little help would be much appreciated. I have read the redhat how to and they suggest i run the command cat /proc/ioports and cat /proc/interrupts . this presupposes the output is understood. I list below the examples they give and then my real life results.
could someone plese indentify which entries are the modem entries? Getting Online With a Modem Question: I can't get my modem to work. Can you help? Answer: First, check to see if your modem is a supported device. Double-check the Hardware Compatibility List at http://hardware.redhat.com. Verify that your modem is being detected by the system and that it is not conflicting with other resources. You can check this with the following commands (as seen in this example): cat /proc/ioports 0000-001f : dma1 0020-003f : pic1 0040-005f : timer 0060-006f : keyboard 0070-007f : rtc 0080-008f : dma page reg 00a0-00bf : pic2 00c0-00df : dma2 00f0-00ff : fpu 0170-0177 : ide1 01f0-01f7 : ide0 0220-022f : soundblaster 02f8-02ff : serial(auto) 0330-0333 : MPU-401 UART 0376-0376 : ide1 0388-038b : Yamaha OPL3 03c0-03df : vga+ 03f6-03f6 : ide0 03f8-03ff : serial(auto) d000-d07f : eth0 d800-d807 : ide0 d808-d80f : ide1 cat /proc/interrupts CPU0 0: 1296380 XT-PIC timer 1: 30736 XT-PIC keyboard 2: 0 XT-PIC cascade 5: 1 XT-PIC soundblaster 8: 1 XT-PIC rtc 10: 73593 XT-PIC eth0 12: 159669 XT-PIC PS/2 Mouse 13: 1 XT-PIC fpu 14: 246863 XT-PIC ide0 15: 584998 XT-PIC ide1 NMI: 0 And for my real life ones:- 0000-001f : dma1 0020-003f : pic1 0040-005f : timer 0060-006f : keyboard 0070-007f : rtc 0080-008f : dma page reg 00a0-00bf : pic2 00c0-00df : dma2 00f0-00ff : fpu 02f8-02ff : serial(auto) 0378-037a : parport0 03c0-03df : vga+ 03f2-03f5 : floppy 03f7-03f7 : floppy DIR 03f8-03ff : serial(auto) 0cf8-0cff : PCI conf1 f400-f4ff : Adaptec AIC-7880U (#2) f800-f8ff : Adaptec AIC-7880U fc00-fc7f : 3Com Corporation 3c905B 100BaseTX [Cyclone] fc00-fc7f : 00:07.0 0000-001f : dma1 0020-003f : pic1 0040-005f : timer 0060-006f : keyboard 0070-007f : rtc 0080-008f : dma page reg 00a0-00bf : pic2 00c0-00df : dma2 00f0-00ff : fpu 02f8-02ff : serial(auto) 0378-037a : parport0 03c0-03df : vga+ 03f2-03f5 : floppy 03f7-03f7 : floppy DIR 03f8-03ff : serial(auto) 0cf8-0cff : PCI conf1 f400-f4ff : Adaptec AIC-7880U (#2) f800-f8ff : Adaptec AIC-7880U fc00-fc7f : 3Com Corporation 3c905B 100BaseTX [Cyclone] fc00-fc7f : 00:07.0 the moden was connected at the time of installation of RH 7.3 on an old HP pentium 133 lh pro server. thanks in advance george --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
