OK, for the compiler install gcc, g++ packages, all the libraries, like
development, static, dynamics. Also, install gdb, and if you are really into
memmory management, Electric Fence.
You will need X, and if you have the registered version try Metro X for your
X server, I think it's easier to install. Then pick a window manger.
Make sure to install a text editor!!!!
