i'd had that problem once upon a time and i fixed it by nuking my
.gimp directory and starting over. having stuff in .gimp from an old
version can mess things up apparently. i use the version of gimp that
comes stock with RH 5.0 and it does .gifs, animated and otherwise,
just fine.
