agreed. i, too, am with AT&T. although their web page has good linux
configuration instructions, and i can connect easily from my various RHL
boxes (4.2 and 5.0), and never get busy signals, i have NEVER connected
above 26.4 with my 28.8 modems. and i get 21.6's and 14.4's quite
frequently. it aint just linux, either; at work we use 'em with both
linux (RHL 5.0) and WinNT. never had a 28.8 from there, either. so: from
two different locations, accessing 3 different access numbers, i have
never seen a 28.8 connection. funny thing is that when i call directly
from home to work, i ALWAYS get 28.8. sounds to me like the lines
in/around my home and work are ok, and it's an AT&T problem.
i've brought this up with them, and they have never been responsive to my
complaints (repeat after me: "it's probably bad phone lines...").
i'm almost ready to dump them. 14.4 sucks. (boy, to think i used to use
300 baud (and even 110 for a short while)...)
do other people have better luck?
