Well, to add my two cents to this disscussion... In Longview, TX
with AT&T I usually get 26400, now and then 24000 and 28800, with a USR
Sportster(sp?) 28.8kpbs modem. With the same modem in Boulder, CO, I get
26400 now and then, and 28800 on a regular basis. With a 3COM 33.6kpbs
PCMCIA modem I get 38400 everywhere! I think it has something to do with
phone line quality (maybe from the telephone company switch to the AT&T
modems, and not from the calling point to the switch?), and type of modem
being used. Just some data point, hope they help you out.
