Perhaps I didn't fdisk, I don't remember, but I would have thought so.
I've had a busy time installing SO and compiling some of the newer KDE
bits and the latest Lyx, so I'm having trouble remembering much at all
:) Anyway it's working fine now, but it could have been worse. If it's
just something I did, then that's okay :)
> When you run fsck you are unmounting the partition first, right?
Yep. Turned out this problem was caused by an altered ifcfg-lo file.
There are always TWO or more things wrong at once. Just my luck to have
trouble with fsck just when I happen to 'lose' a partition :)
I'd just like to know how and why the ifcfg-lo file was changed?
Surprised this caused as much trouble as it did, but at least linux was
nice enough to still let me work on the machine and access the net while
this was going on.

I do now. Indeed I put the right fs in fstab, but it was changed back to
hpfs during the reboot every time. That was when I tried fdisk.

It was O, now 2. I havn't been rebooting much, and was just checking
manually. I only just figured out the '2' option. Before that I thought
you needed to put in a fsorder, like 1, 2, 3... Those man pages come in
handy sometimes :)
