I am setting up a Linux server on a lan connected to the Internet via a T1
line. The school is using NT for a Web, DNS, and email server. For the small
setup they have this has worked fine for them, but now they want to add proxy
services.

Since this is a school, they can get Netscape's Proxy server at no cost, but
when this was added to the NT server, resources were, to say the least,
strained.

So that's why the move to Linux. Being relatively new to Linux and TCPIP
networking in general (my background is with Netware) I have a few questions.

The server set up is:
RedHat 5.1
2 NICS
Routing and ipmasqurading setup and working

1. Can Apache run, at the same time, as both a WEB and Proxy server? The WEB
server will have very little activity, just some info about the school. If it
gets 10 hits a week that will be a lot.

2. The server is a Compaq Prosignia 500 w/P90, 64MB, 4GB SCSI HD. They want to
run WEB, email, proxy, DNS, DHCP, and routing services. I would like some
opinions on whether this is overkill for one server. The network consist of
about 100 Win95 stations. My guess is that at any given time less than half
will be using the services of the Internet server, except of course at boot up
for DHCP services.

3. For redundancy, I am planning to setup a second machine (486/33 16MB 175MB
HD)as backup for DNS and email. Which side of the firewall do I place this
machine?

Thanks
