Checking the server.
On my system (RH51), similar problem:
$/usr/sbin/showmount -e localhost
mount clntudp_create: RPC: Program not registered
Which may (or may not) be caused by not exporting any filesystem.

On a RH50 which does export nfs properly, this command works OK,
showing the exported filesystems.
You need to work on your nfs server. Try running the server from
control-panel, or linuxconf. Try rebooting, with nfs (server)
enabled in your default initstate.
Or,
Try install via FTP, I *think* it doesn't need RPC.
You may need to set up the ftp service on the server. Again you
can check if it works ftp-ing the localhost.
