The reports I have are all word-of-mouth, or emails I've received -- don't
have anything I can directly pass on. I've run Oracle on Linux myself
enough to know it works well, though.

I am actually not assuming that it'd be freeware, not at all. There's no
reason to release it as anything but a full-blown supported product, like
Applixware or Wordperfect (both ported to Linux).
Oracle does not understand what open software (Linux) is, so they don't
take it (Linux) seriously. Therefore, no port -- they're the ones assuming
it'd have to be freeware, or that all Linux users would want to pirate it.
(Or, that there aren't *enough* Linux users at all -- which is so not
true; we kick NT's ass for user base.)
However, you're right about Andressen -- in a recent article, he mentioned
having talks with Oracle, and said that when he brought up how seriously
Netscape was thinking about Linux, they didn't laugh him out of the room.
He was heartened by that, he said.
