Red Hat usually doesn't distribute new kernels unless there is a critical
bug that MUST be fixed. That's because installing a new kernel can hose
your system so easily. Plus there are other issues -- iBCS2, pcmcia, the
commercial sound drivers, etc. are all tied to kernel version and quit
working if you change your kernel version. Even 'dosemu' can break, though
it hasn't lately (changes between 2.0.25 and 2.0.29 definitely DID break
dosemu on a regular basis).

The 2.0.32 that comes with current Red Hat 5.0 is not a "straight" 2.0.32
anyhow -- it has the most important patches that went into 2.0.33. I think
there may be some fixes for SMP at the driver level that went into 2.0.33
that Red Hat didn't apply to their 2.0.32, but if you're just an ordinary
user on a single-processor machine, the default Red Hat kernel works just
fine. (If you're not you've already downloaded 2.0.34-pre10 from
ftp.kernel.org anyhow, eh?). So it's unlikely that Red Hat will upgrade
its kernel until there comes a real reason to do so.
