I don't know if it's either. I have 64MB of RAM, RH 5.1. Here is
what my "meminfo" says:
total: used: free: shared: buffers: cached:
Mem: 65015808 63123456 1892352 40857600 8044544 27463680
Swap: 41119744 0 41119744
MemTotal: 63492 kB
MemFree: 1848 kB
MemShared: 39900 kB
Buffers: 7856 kB
Cached: 26820 kB
SwapTotal: 40156 kB
SwapFree: 40156 kB
and ps on netscape gives:
USER PID %CPU %MEM SIZE RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND
howard 7691 3.7 19.3 18412 12264 ? S 18:33 0:06
/usr/lib/netscape/netscape-communicator
I have fvwm2, emacs, and latex running when I took this info. Netscape
has www.cnn.com loaded, which uses quite a bit of graphics. I don't have
any problem with memory at all.
Have you tried recompiling the kernel to get rid of unnecessary features?
It may save you some memory.
