First, let's get our categories and terminologies correct. "Metro-X" and
"XFree" are examples of X *servers*, the software that does the low
level grit stuff of drawing circles, putting pixels on the screen,
managing other outside connections, etc.
fvwm, olvwm etc. are examples of window managers, which run on top of
the X server and do things like control the decorations and placement of
windows and other stuff.
I've tried quite a few of them, and KDE is my favorite so far, and by
the way I use Accelerated X as my X server.
