Hellllppp,
I just got this RH5.0 installed and I'm pretty new at this, so bear
with me. I want to learn this OS at the ground level so even though
I'm just a single user dialing into an ISP, I want my machine to
operate in a multiuser runlevel, so I'm trying to use sendmail and
procmail to send and receive mail. Hopefully someday this will be a
server of sorts if my hardware is not obsolete by the time I figure
out how to do it.
Anyway, when I send mail out it seems to be delivered fine except
that the 'From:' part of the headers have this: "root@[EMAIL PROTECTED]"
and I'm just [EMAIL PROTECTED] I have my sendmail.cf file to masquerade
me as [EMAIL PROTECTED] and I'm logged in as root--obviously. My
'HOSTNAME' file contains the name 'CHAOS' (which is pretty accurate
for now) and my 'hosts' file has :
127.0.0.1 localhost
0.0.0.0 CHAOS
as per the ISP-HOWTO.
I have a couple of problems that I know of. First, my procmail
doesn't seem to be running. Shouldn't it show up in my runlevel
editor someplace? "top" never shows it either. I have a couple of
filters set up in my /root/.procmailrc but none of the mail is getting
processed. Sendmail just dumps it in my /var/spool/mqueue file and it
stays there and piles up. Ok, so in summary my symptoms are:
1) Funny 'From:" header in my outgoing mail, i.e.,
root@[EMAIL PROTECTED]
2) Apparently no procmail running.
3) Mail piling up in my mqueue.
One other thing. Sendmail is running in just one runlevel and that is
three. It doesn't appear in any of the "stop" columns in the runlevel
editor. Is this functional?
I know one of you geniuses knows what my machine is up to, but I am
clueless. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Gree
