Hi Eugene, >can anyone point me towards how to print to a SMB-shared >printer on a PC via >samba? SMB printing to W95 was first-time for me with out-of-the box Red Hat 5.0. I used x-windows control-panel to set up my shared printer as I am lazy, but I can print out the config files if you want. Can you use control-panel?? I've set out my control-panel settings below. Firstly make sure your printer is shared to the world - esp. if using NT. Can you print to it from another PC? I remember when trying to set Linux up to print to NT, I had to create a user on the NT PC and set permissions for that name to use the printer. My W95 PC with the printer is called 'claude' with an address of 128.1.20.1 and the printer is known to the world as HPLJ. It is shared to the world with no restrictions. The Linux PC is called 'pooh' . The control-panel setup for the printer is as follows: Names (name1 name2) ...... lp Spool Directory ..................... /var/spool/lpd/lp File Limit in Kb ...................... 0 Hostname of Printer server ..claude IP number (optional) ..............128.1.20.1 Printer Name .........................HPLJ User ....................................... pooh Password............................... <empty> Inout Filter .........................< Selected to Auto LaserJet 4> Suppress Headers .............. <checked> When I print to the HPLJ device, there is a burst of network activity between the two machines which I can see on my hub. If permissions are wrong, or the password is incorrect, I see just a few flickers. Let me know if this helps !
