Hi Dominic, >*click, whirrr* cannabalization of dinosaur failed... *beeeoup* the three way >connector thingy is.. *squueak* funky. it... umm.. err.. isnt.. I can't make much of your description of the cable-connector, but it was fun to read. <g> Can you please count the pins on each connector to help identify what you have got? I think from your description that the middle connector is female so it might be kludge to add a second drive via a 2nd two-way connector. I've seen that on Ditto drives for the floppy connector. I'd just get a long three way connector if I were you, or borrow one. >also, i dont think linux detects the ultra ide controller thingy.. no matter what hard >drive i attach it to, it wont detect it... I wonder whether it is the same problem as with scsi cards. With a scsi card, if a drive is not seen by bios on bootup and assigned a drive letter then it can't see the card. Have you tried the following to prove whether the ide card is set up properly? I think you have one 300 mb drive on the motherboard and want the 2nd drive on the ide card - till you get your three-way cable. 1. Set both drives to master 2. Connect 300Mb drive to motherboard 3. Connect 2nd IDE to ide card 4. Boot up and set cmos so that it thinks there is only one 300mb drive as first master. reboot 5. Boot up with dos floppy and run fdisk 6. Can you see two drives??? if you can only see one 300 mbyte drive, then the ide card is faulty or more probably set up incorrectly. I assume it is the sort that announces itself on startup, and gives a prompt to allow config. If so it should have a parameter to autodetect the 2nd drive. >where can i get one of those neetoh three >way connectors? any computer store? Any decent store - get a longish cable - the longest you can afford as it will come in handy when you buy that 3ft high tower case <g> Lastly when you get both drives set up, there are some handy tips to follow with putting different mount points on each drive - but that's another posting! Hope this helps, let us know how you get on <g> Kind Regards Tony Wells Phenomenal Books "I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter" - Blaise Pascal.
