libg2c is the runtime library for g77, the fortran compiler for gcc 3.x. Loooking at the R spec file, this is likely to be in gcc-g77 (or a dependency of that), and that is a dependency of the R-devel RPM. Have you tried installing the latter: you will need it to install packages later? Googling got me to http://www.redhat.com/archives/nahant-list/2007-April/msg00049.html which suggests that you need the libf2c RPM on RHEL4. -- Brian D.
