So far so good.

my adapter:
ubt0 at uhub3 port 2 "Cambridge Silicon Radio Bluetooth" rev 1.10/5.25 addr 7
bthub0 at ubt0 00:02:72:01:e3:90

borrowed adapter:
ubt0 at uhub3 port 2 "ISSC ISSCBTM" rev 1.10/3.73 addr 7
bthub0 at ubt0 00:11:67:63:7e:bd

rrlhcwks1001: andrew $ rfcomm_sppd -a VogonPA -s DUN

my adapter:
rfcomm_sppd: DUN: Software caused connection abort

borrowed adapter:
while phone is off or phone is on or bluetooth on or discoverable:
rfcomm_sppd just hangs, nothing that I can see on the phone

rrlhcwks1001: andrew $ sdpquery -a VogonPA Browse

my adapter immediately says:
sdpquery: sdp_open: Software caused connection abort

borrowed adapter:
while phone is discoverable:
the bluetooth logo on my phone lights up, but sdpquery just hangs

when phone not discoverable but bluetooth is on:
sdpquery: sdp_open: Host is down

when phone is off or bluetooth is off on the phone:
sdpquery just hangs

Yup, no good.

rrlhcwks1001: andrew $ obexftp -b VogonPA -X -vvv

my adapter and borrowed are the same:
Scanning for VogonPA ...
Browsing VogonPA ...
Connecting...failed: connect
error on connect(): Undefined error: 0
and repeats
