Why is it funny? Because English is not my first language... well not my fault, I'm just trying to make myself understood.

You can't have both.

I don't agree. A template is... a template, nothing more.
And I do believe that some variables should have a defined place in the Makefile (looking for DISTNAME all over the Makefile is not fun ; yes, I ran into this one).
