tried with default fvwm setup on i386 and amd64 with gxine in
full-screen mode, switching the desktops via the Pager, and it
didn't crash.  it does still "steal the focus" though.  that
is, even on a different desktop, input events go to gxine.

and, video actually plays better when gxine's window is maximized
and gxine is not in full-screen mode than when gxine is in
full-screen mode, regardless of the window size, which needs to be
manually maximized to see the video when gxine is in full-screen
mode anyway.

basically, full-sceeen mode relies on the window manager to "do
the right thing", and is of little practical use, except to maybe
just sit back and watch a movie.
