What exactly are the differences between the original and the patched
config file, and what config file are you talking about? Should it
be something like the ls-R files, than it should be created during
installation of the package (i.e. use @exec/@unexec like in the
teTeX ports).
It is fmtutil.cnf which describes which binaries are available. XeTeX
is not a part of a "traditional" minimal distribution, so the line in
the config file must be commented.
