If someone was wondering why cdboot(8) didn't read /etc/boot.conf file, here is an answer, from mkhybrid(8): -l Allow full 32 character filenames. Normally the ISO9660 filename will be in an 8.3 format which is compatible with MS-DOS, even though the ISO9660 standard allows filenames of up to 32 characters. If you use this option, the disc may be difficult to use on a MS-DOS system, but this comes in handy on some other systems (such as the Amiga). Use with caution. ..and some commands to configrm that: $ isoinfo -f -i cdrom.iso | grep -i etc/boot /ETC/BOOT.CONF;1 /HOME/ARCHIVES/ETC/BOOT.CONF;1 ..before was: $ isoinfo -f -i old.iso | grep -i etc/boot /ETC/BOOT.CON;1 /HOME/ARCHIVES/ETC/BOOT.CON;1 Atteched dmesg(8) from new iso, with console and getty configured for pccom0. $ qemu ... -serial stdio -nographic (qemu) >> OpenBSD/i386 CDBOOT 1.05 Welcome to the OpenBSD/i386 boot> booting cd0a:/bsd: 5509536+868816 [52+281584+262836]=0x69a3bc entry point at 0x200120 [ using 544844 bytes of bsd ELF symbol table ] Copyright (c) 1982, 1986, 1989, 1991, 1993 The Regents of the University of California.
