You are exactly correct. I was mixing grubs with no good effect. It just was getting too grubby. I installed Ubuntu 9.10 fresh and will put my folders into the /home area and will slowly rebuild from there. A painful lesson again, but it has taught me a little more of what really has to be backed upon on my backup disks. Randall p.s.
