But as @rizzitello says, we've gotten a lot of user complaints about how the login screen permanently obscures the background image; it was prettier before. This patch is an attempt to solve in a different way the problem that drove the adoption of the blurry overlay, so that we can have both adequate readability and also an attractive background image. I think the lock screen can stay the way it is because 1. people seem to like it and 2. with the current design, you can basically have a ~~screensaver~~ attractive animated lock screen background, which is popular and fun.
