i actually played with this on the flight to tokamak last week. i think it's possible. it will need a fair amount of work, but it should be doable. as an extra bonus, this will also make the dashboard perform a lot better as we won't be drawing the widgets twice when the dashboard is up, but only once. i'll take another run at this later in the week and post a patch ... for the non-compositing scenario, it can just fall back to what we're doing now pretty easily. -- Aaron J.
