Depending on how the form was sent to the server:
if ($_POST['fieldname'] == 'this')
if ($_GET['fieldname'] == 'this')
if register_globals is off.
if ($fieldname == 'this')
if register_globals is on.
Though this is such a simple one, maybe I'm misunderstanding the question.
