Amazingly, there may be an answer to this from another message board: "Isn't it nice when some clever ba*tard comes along and creates a stand-alone program that anybody can use (even if they don't have the latest PS)... and especially when it's free :-)
Getting the best out of your pics usually requires some form of sharpening... most of us use Unsharp Mask... the trouble with USM is that it won't rescue a slightly out of focus image, whereas this little prog will try... As usual I'm impressed (ain't I always :) so I recommend you give it a try... it's a small zip file and I suggest you make a directory called 'Sharpen' first, then download it into it and unzip to the same directory... of course the usual disclaimers apply when trying out free stuff but I am running it on Windows ME (sorry Mac guys) and all seems ok... wanna be as sharp as me?, then click here http://www.applied-maths.com/paul/SharpControl.zip Just load in a pic and use the defaults first... click add bottom right-hand side to get the ball rolling... BE PATIENT if you have a slow machine cuz it's doing an awful lot of work! You'll notice an 'Outlined Rectangle' overlaid on the image... move this around and you can see in the right-hand pane a before and after effect before you commit yourself to the whole image being altered... play around with the controls to try different levels of sharpening... have fun :-) Chris... Notes: 1) When saving, put in a file extension of your choice, i.e. .jpg for jpeg. 2) There is no compression when you save at the moment, so you will have to open it in your favourite program and resave again. PS. This is a first beta so is not totally user friendly, however, the author will be updating it should he receive a favourable response from Joe public. I will pass on any messages that are posted here..." -----Original Message----- From: Michael Perham [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] ken care of things. But, defiantly not as sharp as when proper focus is achieved and no amount of sharpening in Photoshop can correct an out of focus picture. Thanks for the comments. .....Mike.
