Well I beat the crap out of my equipment, my recent LX issue is a case in point. So I may need a replacement body after somehow killing main camera.

I have a lot of old lenses, don't use as many as I used to, but I find a couple of old K and M mount lenses very useful, and I worry about two things, that Ricoh will decide to stop all support in camera for all mechanical functions which will leave even the newer DA limited lenses crippled, (I've seen enough calls for this on the Pentax Fora to understand how short sighted people can be), or Ricoh abandoning the K mount altogether in favor of following the mirrorless trend.*

I find the focus and zoom by wire functionality that's being introduced into DSLR lenses troubling too. Part of the point of a DSLR is that you can focus and frame without having to turn the damned camera on. I don't find that trend quite so onerous on a mirrorless camera since you can't actually see through the viewfinder unless it's powered on. I understand that it makes the lenses simpler to design, but I still find it counter productive.

I do have a small worry about Ricoh simply shutting down advanced camera production, they've done it before, but that seems less likely than the the other options.

*If you actually examine the numbers it isn't that much of a trend.

My experience is the same as John's.

I bought my first Pentax -- actually branded as a Honeywell Spotmatic - in
1967, and I have been loyal since, because I could use my older lenses in
the newer models, and because of the consistent quality of the cameras and
lenses. Like John, my current cameras may well outlive me.

Like all mechanical or electronic items, they can break and need repairs,
but I've only once had to
send a Pentax camera in for repair! I expect to be using my current crop
(MZ-S, *ist-d, K5ii-s, SV
and a couple of other older models) until hell freezes over. I'll be
sorry if Ricoh do drop out,
they've done some good stuff in the last few years - BUT, they do need to
market!

The fact is at my age my Pentax kit will probably outlast me, so I'm good
to go!
